Less than 5 miles from The Highlander Hotel, the University of Iowa is Iowa's oldest and second largest university in the state. It boasts more than 33,000 students with over 500 student organizations. The University of Iowa alumni network exceeds 250,000 graduates.

Iowa City is also home to Kinnick Stadium and The University of Iowa Children's Hospital.  The building overlooks the East stands of Kinnick Stadium and the opening of the hospital in 2017 led to the creation of the Kinnick Wave. At the end of the first quarter of Iowa home games, the crowd faces the hospital and waves at the patients and their families watching in the Press Box.  This is a tradition you won't want to miss.
